Trail Index for Willamette Valley Oregon

Willamette Valley is the region in northwest Oregon that surrounds the Willamette River as it proceeds northward from its emergence from mountains near Eugene to its confluence with the Columbia River at Portland. The valley was the destination for many Oregon Trail emigrants in the 1840s and the area has lots of historical sites and buildings. The Willamette Valley is noted for beautiful farmland and waterways, wineries, and scenic trips into the Cascade Mountains.
For the purposes of our Website, the Willamette Valley area includes five Oregon counties: Marion and Polk are counties in the upper Williamette Valley. Benton county and Linn county occupy the central region of the Willamette Valley. Both Marion and Linn County stretch from the Willamette River to the Cascade Mountains. Lane county is in the south part of the Valley and it stretches from the coast to the Cascade Mountains. (The coastal area of Lane county is covered in the Central Coast Region of this Website.) Accessible trails in the Cascade mountain section of Marion, Linn, and Lane Counties are covered on the Willamette National Forest (Willamette N.F.) page.
